Social media & brand strategy for organic growth

Raver India / CASE STUDY 01

Social media & brand strategy for organic growth

Repositioning a merchandise-led Instagram page into an editorial platform for South Asian music, rave culture and community - then growing it through organic content.

My role: End-to-end channel ownership: brand strategy, content strategy, research, writing, creative direction, creative production, publishing, community development & performance analysis.
Channel: Instagram

01 / Raver IndiaRAVER
INDIAFrom merchandise feed to media, culture & community platform.

THE WORK BEHIND THE STRATEGY

Explore ten selected pieces across editorial, design, video and event promotion.

Open selected creative work ↗

Context & brief

RAVER began as a merchandise-led page with a very small audience. The feed was dominated by catalogue-style product content and occasional event promotion, so there was little reason to follow the account when someone was not actively shopping or attending an event.

I repositioned the brand around music discovery, South Asian music and rave culture, useful local information and culturally relevant stories. The goal was to build organic distribution first: create content people wanted to share, save and return to, then let that audience become the engine for brand awareness, collaborations, event discovery and future cross-promotion.

Instead of treating Instagram as a promotional feed, I treated it as an editorial product: recurring formats, recognizable subject matter, timely cultural stories and a publishing system that could be measured and refined.

The challenge

Discovery

Reach people well beyond the existing audience without relying on paid media.

Retention

Give followers recurring value so the page became something worth returning to.

Identity

Move from a merchandise page to a recognizable media and community brand without losing personality.

Results

The performance result was a repeatable organic system that kept acquiring new followers across multiple formats. The business result was a brand people increasingly recognized, shared and approached.

Brand & business outcomes

The bigger result was not only audience growth. The repositioning turned RAVER from a small merchandise-led page into a recognizable media and community brand that began creating demand beyond Instagram.

Recognizable brand identity

Repeated editorial choices gave RAVER a clearer position around South Asian music, rave culture, discovery and community - making the brand easier to recognize beyond individual posts.

Organic inbound demand

The channel began attracting inbound enquiries for brand collaborations, event partnerships, artist releases, promotions and editorial collaborations without paid distribution driving the audience growth.

Audience beyond Bangalore

RAVER stayed rooted in Bangalore and India while building meaningful international reach, helping the brand travel beyond the local scene without losing its cultural point of view.

Traffic into the wider ecosystem

Instagram became an organic top-of-funnel for the wider RAVER ecosystem, creating pathways into the website, events and future product or partnership activity.

Repositioning the brand

The feed itself shows the strategic shift: from product catalogue to editorial media mix.

Old merchandise-led RAVRR Instagram grid — Product-led catalogue content; most visible post counts were in the hundreds or low thousands.

AFTER

Editorial music, culture and utility formats at the centre of the page.

Strategy & content system

I built the channel around four jobs. Each format had a purpose: acquire new people, deepen the point of view, create repeat utility, or make the community feel human.

01

Discovery reels

Use strong music moments, performances and cultural hooks to reach non-followers. Opening clips, written hooks and framing were treated as creative variables to test.

02

Editorial stories

Research and write deeper carousels around Indian and South Asian music, rave culture and overlooked histories, with visual direction designed around each subject.

03

Utility formats

Turn event discovery into a habit. Bangalore Gig Radar was researched, verified and published as a recurring guide that artists and venues could naturally reshare.

04

Entertainment & community

Balance serious editorial work with playful, culturally relatable ideas, meme/UGC-style content and community concepts such as An Ideal Raver.

Discovery: repeated reach, not one-off virality

Multiple pieces crossed six and seven figures. I used those results to identify repeatable hooks, subject areas and opening structures rather than chase a single hit.

Top RAVER posts ranked by views — Multiple posts crossed 1M views within the 180-day window.

Top RAVER posts ranked by follows — The same dashboard was used to evaluate follower acquisition, not reach alone.

Editorial storytelling: depth that still converts

A long-form carousel on Ahmedabad's early electronic music history combined research, narrative writing and a visual system built specifically for the story.

Utility + community: reasons to return and share

Acquisition content brought new people in. Utility and culturally relatable formats gave them reasons to return, tag friends and share the page into their own networks.

Workflow: end-to-end channel ownership

1

Research

Track artists, releases, performances, cultural stories, audience conversations, community submissions and events worth covering.

2

Frame the angle

Decide why the story matters, who it is for and what the strongest hook is before deciding the format.

3

Create & direct

Write the narrative, build or direct the visual treatment, create social assets and videos, and later direct additional reel editing with selected footage and detailed edit notes.

4

Publish & distribute

Publish consistently, tag relevant artists, venues and collaborators, and use organic reshares and collaborations to extend distribution.

5

Participate after publishing

Treat the first few days as part of the work: respond meaningfully to comments and DMs, ask open-ended questions, and participate in relevant conversations across the wider scene instead of posting and disappearing.

6

Measure

Review views, shares, saves, follows, profile actions and audience response, with follower acquisition and repeatability weighted more heavily than vanity engagement.

7

Iterate

Turn patterns into recurring formats, refine promising ideas, and drop or rework formats that repeatedly fail to resonate.

Testing, iteration & community feedback

Give formats enough time

New formats were usually given a two-to-four-week testing window, not judged from one post. I compared several executions before deciding whether to scale, refine or drop them.

Use people, not only dashboards

Analytics showed what happened. Friendly conversations with active commenters, sharers and recurring community members helped explain why and sharpened the editorial direction.

Don't post and forget

Community is a behaviour, not a content category. I stayed present after publishing: meaningful replies instead of emoji-only responses, active DMs, and genuine participation on other pages - even adjacent or competing ones.

Audience: Bangalore-built, wider than Bangalore

The audience stayed India-first while expanding internationally. Instagram reports 54.8% of followers in India, with meaningful audiences in the United States (9.9%) and United Kingdom (5.7%).

Bangalore remained the largest individual city at 18.5%, followed by Mumbai and Delhi, while London also appeared among the top cities.

That mattered strategically: the page could stay rooted in Bangalore and South Asian culture without becoming geographically narrow.

Planned next

The next layer is designed to deepen participation rather than simply increase output.

Planned formats include artist interviews and artist biographies, creator/influencer collaborations, and tighter organic integration between RAVER's editorial content, events and products - including cross-promotion and on-ground product visibility.

What I learned

Free value is the growth engine.

People follow when a free platform repeatedly gives them a reason to return - knowledge, entertainment, discovery or utility. Make the page useful before asking it to promote anything.

Shares and follows tell a better story than views alone.

Reach matters, but share behaviour and follower conversion reveal whether content is actually expanding the brand.

Formats need time to mature.

A single weak post is not enough information. Two-to-four-week tests created a better basis for deciding whether to scale, refine or drop a format.

Analytics explain what; conversations explain why.

Platform data identified patterns. Direct audience feedback helped interpret them and kept the strategy connected to real community behaviour.

Community requires presence.

Publishing is not the finish line. Meaningful replies, DMs and participation across the wider scene made the account behave like a member of the community rather than a content dump.

Brand strategy can live inside a content system.

The repositioning did not depend on a one-time campaign. Repeated editorial choices gradually changed what people understood RAVER to be.

Takeaway

Build the reason to follow before the reason to buy.

RAVER grew when the channel stopped behaving like a brand that needed to post and started behaving like a media product with a defined audience, editorial taste and repeatable value. Discovery brought new people in; utility, culture and active community participation gave them reasons to stay.

Content strategy, founder-led storytelling & parent discovery

THE WORK BEHIND THE STRATEGY

Explore thirteen selected pieces across video, editorial, design and interactive learning experiences.

Open selected creative work ↗

Context & brief

StayQrious was selling something parents were not used to evaluating: a full-time online school built around a different learning model. By the time I took over social more independently, the content was inconsistent, founder-led social content was effectively absent, and the school still needed a clearer human face.

The brief became bigger than “post regularly.” I needed to help parents understand what the school actually felt like, explain the model without drowning them in curriculum language, and build trust with real people - the founder, parents, coaches and students.

The product had also evolved over time from earlier coding and after-school offerings into a full-time school. That meant a lot of legacy content could not simply be reposted. Old student footage was not always relevant to the current product, and content featuring minors needed the right permissions before reuse.

The challenge

Explain an unfamiliar product

Parents needed to understand how an online school worked, what made it different, and why the model could be credible for their child.

Build trust without fear

The content had to persuade without “your child will fall behind” messaging. The tone stayed explanatory, calm and parent-first.

Keep output moving leanly

Founder availability, approval layers, permissions and tight production budgets meant the system had to be repeatable and operationally efficient.

What I owned

I was responsible for the social content engine end to end, while working collaboratively with the founder and co-founder on topic selection and final approvals.

Strategy & editorial

Content planning, research, topic selection, hooks, scripts, content calendar and format development.

Creative & production

Creative direction, storyboards, carousel direction, video direction, selected edits, shoots and ad creative.

Operations

Publishing, analytics, contractor briefs, QA, review cycles and keeping a 3-4 post weekly rhythm moving.

Results

This was a mixed paid + organic content system, so I do not treat raw reach as an organic-growth claim. The more useful signals were interaction quality, shareability, repeatability and the ability to extend content across channels.

How I read the data

Paid amplification was part of distribution. In the latest 90-day interaction view, Instagram attributed 31% of interactions to ads. I therefore used shares, saves, comments, format-level patterns and qualitative parent response alongside reach rather than presenting boosted views as organic performance.

Strategy & content system

01

Founder-led trust

Give the school a recognizable human face. Founder explainers turned abstract education ideas into calm, direct conversations with parents.

02

Parent discovery

Use questions from the parent community, recurring concerns and timely education topics as a research engine for scripts and posts.

03

Student & classroom proof

Show curiosity, confidence, collaboration and coaching moments so parents could see the experience rather than only hear claims about it.

04

Testimonials & social proof

Use parent voices, interviews and home-shot testimonials to reduce distance between the brand and families considering the school.

05

Comics & carousels

Turn dense education and parenting topics into native, shareable visual stories when a reel was not the best format.

06

Product explainers & ads

Translate school USPs into direct-response and student-led creative while keeping the same accessible tone as the editorial content.

Humanising an online school

The content was designed to make the school feel inhabited by real people, not presented as a list of features.

Founder-led explainer: a consistent face for the brand.

Parent perspective: social proof from families already inside the school.

Student-led proof: showing learning through a real project.

Classroom moments: collaboration and guided decision-making.

Making complex topics shareable

Comics became a useful way to discuss serious parent and education questions without making every idea another talking-head reel.

One parent-education comic about children becoming influencers generated strong sharing behaviour under mixed paid and organic distribution. A second teacher-focused comic repeated the pattern, giving us evidence that the format itself was resonating.

Views were also high, but because these posts were amplified, shares and saves are the more useful signal shown here.

Paid + organic distribution, read honestly

Latest 90-day interaction view. Posts drove the majority of interactions during this period.

Paid media helped amplify selected pieces, particularly founder-led and product communication. That meant “views” could not be treated as a clean measure of content quality.

I looked for signals that survived amplification: shares, saves, comments, profile activity, repeat performance across similar posts, and what parents actually referenced in conversations.

The latest 90-day data also showed 91.8% of interactions coming from posts, which supported leaning harder into static/editorial formats such as comics and carousels alongside video.

Multi-platform distribution

Longer explainers and education topics were not treated as one-platform assets. They were adapted into Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Facebook formats to extend the life of each idea.

29.3KYouTube views · latest 90 days

The figures above use the latest 90-day period so the YouTube view stays comparable with the current Instagram reporting window.

Workflow & lean production

1

Research the topic

Start with founder-led ideas, parent questions, education trends, current news, product priorities and timely conversations worth explaining.

2

Align with the founder

Get topic sign-off, pressure-test the point of view and collaboratively shape the strongest hook and argument.

3

Script or structure

Write the script, carousel flow or interview prompts; keep the language useful and conversational rather than sales-heavy.

4

Shoot + storyboard before polishing

Capture founder, parent or student footage, build the linear cut first, then hand editors a clear storyboard rather than an open-ended brief.

5

One to two focused review cycles

Bring work close to final before review so feedback stays specific and the production loop remains lean.

6

Publish & repurpose

Publish on the primary channel, then adapt useful ideas for YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook or another format when they still fit the product context.

Brand & business outcomes

A more human school brand

Founder, parent, coach and student content made an unfamiliar online-school model feel more tangible and less like a curriculum brochure.

Founder recognition increased

Parents increasingly recognized the founder through the content and sometimes wanted to speak with him directly.

Content entered real parent conversations

Parents referenced videos and ideas they had seen before or during their evaluation of the school, taking the content beyond passive viewing and into real decision-making conversations.

Inbound interest beyond admissions

Social content also generated interest from prospective teachers and coaches who reached out about working with the school.

Enrollment attribution was not instrumented cleanly with unique content-level UTMs, so I do not claim a direct number of enrollments from social.

What I learned

Do not market education through fear.

Parents do not need another page telling them their child is falling behind. Explanatory, empowering content created a better relationship with the audience.

Simplify without dumbing down.

Complex learning ideas can be made clear without turning them into empty slogans. Good scripting protects both nuance and attention.

People trust people.

The founder, parents, students and coaches were more persuasive than abstract brand claims because they gave the school recognizable human voices.

Repurpose the idea, not just the file.

Strong content should return as a reel, carousel, YouTube video or LinkedIn post when the underlying idea is still relevant. Product pivots and permissions determine what can safely be reused.

Operations shape creative quality.

Clear storyboards, tighter briefs and fewer review rounds mattered as much as ideation when budgets and team capacity were constrained.

Views need context.

When paid amplification is part of distribution, shares, saves, qualitative feedback and format-level patterns are better evidence of resonance than raw reach alone.

Make the product easier to understand by making the people behind it easier to trust.

The strongest StayQrious content did not behave like school advertising. It answered real parent questions, showed real learning, gave the founder a human voice and built a lean system that could keep doing that consistently.

SpinOut was created as its offline events sub-brand — a separate identity that could build localized communities, recurring experiences and a physical presence without turning RAVER's main channel into an event listings page.

The first recurring IP was Cosmic Rising: a monthly zodiac-themed sundowner that combined electronic music with a flea market, pop-up experiences and a relaxed social setting. My focus was the marketing system around the event — how the idea was positioned, communicated and distributed strongly enough to turn online attention into real-world attendance.

The challenge

Online attention is not attendance

RAVER already had reach, but a follower or viewer is not automatically a ticket buyer. The campaign had to create repeated exposure, social proof and a reason to make an actual plan.

A new IP needed trust fast

Cosmic Rising did not have years of event history. The marketing had to make the concept understandable quickly while showing enough people, music and atmosphere to feel credible.

Short campaign windows

Event marketing usually ran on an approximately two-week runway, with the strongest conversion pressure arriving in the final few days. Every asset needed a clear job.

Results snapshot — Virgo Edition

The September edition gives the clearest campaign-to-conversion view because the ticketing data and social performance are available together.

50tracked online ticket sales via SortMyScene

~150approx. total event footfall including online tickets, offline sales, walk-ins, guest list and collaborators

40 / 50tracked online sales happened in the final 48 hours

56.9Kviews on the strongest creator collaboration

138.8KSpinOut Instagram views across the latest 60-day reporting window

3,906Instagram interactions across the same 60-day window

Footfall is approximate. Ticket sales and footfall are kept separate because the event also included offline entry, walk-ins, guest list and collaborator traffic. Revenue and ticket pricing are intentionally excluded from this case study.

The event IP & positioning

Virgo Edition campaign creative. The identity could refresh monthly while the Cosmic Rising IP stayed recognizable.

Cosmic Rising was designed as a recurring monthly format rather than a one-off club night.

Music + people first

A sundowner format where the crowd could move between the dancefloor, flea stalls and social spaces instead of being organized around tables and hierarchy.

Accessible by design

No VIP ladder, no stag/couple/women pricing structure and no complicated phase language. The communication stayed direct and community-oriented.

A monthly hook

Zodiac editions created a simple recurring device. Each month could change music, mood and creative direction without rebuilding the IP from zero.

Offline counterpart to RAVER

SpinOut gave an online music community a physical place to meet while creating a home for local artists, pop-ups and culture-led experiences.

What I owned

My role here focused on campaign strategy, audience building, content, creator distribution and event-day marketing around the event.

Campaign strategy

Build the two-week communication rhythm, decide what each piece of content needed to do and sequence awareness, proof, CTA and last-week urgency.

Content + creative direction

Copy, social content, poster direction, artist/flea communications, teaser concepts, testimonial framing and the overall campaign voice.

Creator & community distribution

Creator outreach, collaborator posting, community groups, personalized direct outreach and organic cross-promotion between RAVER, SpinOut and event participants.

Event-day content

Real-time stories, quick clips and updates designed to show the venue filling up and convert last-minute intent while the event was happening.

Post-event content

Turn crowd reactions, creator coverage and recap footage into proof for the next edition rather than letting the event disappear after one night.

Analytics

Track content reach, interactions, link-interest patterns and ticket timing to understand where awareness was building and when conversion actually happened.

The two-week campaign rhythm

The campaign was built as repeated exposure rather than one announcement post. Different assets answered different questions as the event date got closer.

01

Introduce the edition

Concept reveal, date, venue and the overall Cosmic Rising idea.

02

Build the world

Lineup, artists, flea market, pop-ups, hosts and the experiences around the music.

03

Add social proof

Previous-edition interviews, crowd reactions and recap footage to show what the event actually feels like.

04

Expand distribution

Collab posts, artist reposts, creator-led content, community groups and personalized outreach.

05

Push the final week

Countdowns, repeated ticket CTAs, fresh stories and more frequent reminders as purchase intent rises.

06

Market the event live

Day-of clips and stories create real-time proof and catch last-minute plans and walk-ins.

A repeatable visual system covered pop-ups, hosts, artists and the wider experience — one flexible campaign language across the edition.

Organic distribution was a network, not one account

No paid social media campaign was required for the Virgo edition. Distribution came from RAVER + SpinOut collaboration posts, artists, hosts, vendors, creator content, venue/event collaborators, Bangalore community groups and direct outreach.

Influencer marketing included a collaboration with a nightlife and music creator with roughly 96K followers, reaching an audience aligned with the event.

Personalized messages were also sent to people connected to previous editions and relevant communities rather than relying only on broad blasts. The aim was to make the event repeatedly visible in places where likely attendees already spent attention.

A ticketing-partner WhatsApp push supported the final campaign window, but the core system was built around organic cross-promotion and collaborator participation.

The conversion curve changed close to the event

Tracked ticket sales by date for the 20 September Virgo Edition.

40 of 50

tracked online ticket sales happened in the final two days: 9 on 19 September and 31 on the event date.

This was one of the clearest event-marketing lessons. Early campaign content built awareness and familiarity, but actual purchase behaviour was heavily back-loaded.

That changed how I think about event calendars: the first week establishes the event; the final few days need a disproportionate amount of visibility, proof and CTA repetition.

Tracked online ticket count.

Ticket interest also rose sharply close to the event date.

From online attention to offline community

The campaign was only successful if the event felt alive when people arrived. The strongest proof is therefore the actual experience: music, people, pop-ups and interaction.

Cosmic Rising venue and crowd — Music, pop-ups and a social environment designed to encourage people to move through the space.

Flea market interaction — Flea and pop-up experiences made the event more than a dancefloor.

People at Cosmic Rising — People-first visuals became part of the brand language.

The event gave RAVER a literal physical presence inside the scene.

Event-day + post-event content loop

On the day: stories and quick clips showed what was happening in real time — the set starting, the venue filling up, pop-ups running and the crowd arriving. These updates were reshared by collaborators and posted into relevant communities to catch last-minute plans.

After the event: interviews, recap footage and creator coverage became the proof layer for the next edition. Instead of resetting to zero every month, each event produced the marketing material for the next one.

A Leo Edition attendee interview was repurposed directly into Virgo Edition marketing.

Brand & business outcomes

RAVER became physical

SpinOut moved the brand beyond an online culture page and into a real-world space where followers, artists and local audiences could meet.

A recurring IP started taking shape

Cosmic Rising created a recognizable format that could return with a new zodiac edition, music direction and experience mix each month.

The community became a distribution asset

Previous attendees, collaborators and direct-contact lists became increasingly useful for future editions — something a follower count alone could not replace.

Visibility created inbound brand interest

The combined visibility of RAVER and SpinOut also helped generate inbound interest from brands including Diageo for event collaboration.

Campaign workflow

1

Define the edition story

Translate the event concept into a simple promise: what is happening, who it is for and why this edition feels different.

2

Map the campaign runway

Plan roughly two weeks of reveals, proof, creator content, reminders and ticket CTAs instead of treating the poster as the whole campaign.

3

Create the asset system

Build posters, artist and pop-up cards, teaser reels, testimonial edits, captions and story assets with clear sharing hooks for collaborators.

4

Activate distribution partners

Coordinate RAVER, SpinOut, artists, hosts, vendors, creators and communities so each new piece travels beyond one account.

5

Increase frequency as intent rises

Push harder in the final 3-4 days when ticket behaviour changes: countdowns, proof, direct outreach and repeated CTAs.

6

Capture the event for the next campaign

Use live updates, attendee reactions, creator coverage and recap footage so the next edition launches with real social proof.

What I learned

Followers do not equal ticket buyers.

A large audience improves distribution and credibility, but attendance depends on intent, relevance, timing and real-world trust.

Word of mouth is still the strongest event channel.

Friends bringing friends, previous attendees and personalized outreach consistently matter because events are social decisions, not just content decisions.

The final 48 hours behave differently.

For Virgo, 80% of tracked online sales happened in the final two days. Awareness can build early, but the campaign must be strongest close to the event.

Repeated visibility matters.

Event marketing is partly memory-building. Posters, stories, collaborators, creator posts and community messages work together through repeated impressions.

Lineup and artist pull still matter.

Marketing cannot compensate indefinitely for weak audience-product fit. Artists with trusted local or scene relevance make the campaign easier to convert.

Ticket information must be frictionless.

Date, time, venue, access details and what happens at the event should be written clearly. Event jargon and hidden conditions create avoidable drop-off.

Every event should market the next one.

Real crowd footage and attendee reactions reduce uncertainty far better than another poster. Capture becomes part of the acquisition system.

Reach creates awareness. Community, repetition and proof turn it into attendance.

The strongest SpinOut marketing did not rely on one viral asset. It built a network around the event — RAVER, collaborators, creators, communities, previous attendees and real event footage — then increased pressure when buying intent was highest.
